4 arrests made in connection with mass shooting that left 6 dead in Mississippi, FBI says

(AP) –The FBI says four people have been arrested, three of them on murder charges, in a weekend shooting that left six people dead and more than a dozen injured in a small Mississippi town. The FBI on Monday announced the arrests of three men and one woman. The FBI says Teiyon L. Powell, William Bryant and Morgan Lattimore have been charged with capital murder, and Latoya A. Powell has been charged with attempted murder. It was not immediately clear of they had attorneys. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for Friday night’s shooting in Leland in northwest Mississippi, but the FBI said it apparently arose from a disagreement among several people.

The Trump administration started laying off 466 Education Department staffers on Friday amid mass firings across the government meant to pressure Democratic lawmakers over the federal shutdown. The layoffs would cut the agency’s workforce by nearly a fifth and leave it reduced by more than half its size when President Donald Trump took office. The cuts threaten disruption in areas from special education to civil rights enforcement and after-school programs.

3 men, 1 woman identified as dead after weekend bar shooting in South Carolina

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities on Monday identified the three men and a woman who were killed during a weekend mass shooting at a bar on a South Carolina island. At least 20 other people were wounded. Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island was crowded with people when the shooting started on Sunday, including many who had attended Battery Creek High School in Beaufort and were at the bar for an alumni event. Flowers and candles were placed outside the bar on Monday as the Beaufort County coroner’s office identified the dead as Kashawn Glaze, 22, Sherrod Smalls, 33, Amos Gary, 54 and A’shan’tek Milledge, 22.
