Texas man indicted for shooting refugee

HOUSTON (AP) — The brother of an Afghan refugee who helped U.S. forces defuse bombs in Afghanistan has expressed frustration over the delay in indicting the man accused of fatally shooting his sibling. Thirty-one-year-old Abdul Rahman Waziri was shot in Houston on April 27 during a parking dispute. Authorities knew the alleged shooter, who identified himself at the scene. Katia Trevon Bougere was indicted for murder on Monday, but was not arrested. Waziri’s family is upset about the monthslong delay. A petition demanding action has gained over 86,000 signatures. Bougere claims he acted in self-defense. Court records did not list an attorney for Bougere. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has declined to comment.
