U.S. Rep. Michelle Fishbach won re-election in Minnesota's 7th Congressional District on Tuesday, according to unofficial vote totals from the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office. In CD7, which includes much of western Minnesota from Pipestone County north to the Canadian border, Fischbach had nearly 65% of the vote.
District-wide, Fischbach received a total of 214,496 votes, and DFL challenger Erik Osberg received 115,802 votes.
Fischbach also had the lead within Lyon County, receiving about 62% of the vote there.
In a news release Tuesday night, Fischbach gave a statement on her re-election.
"Western Minnesotans made their voices heard loud and clear. They want communities built on strong family values, safe neighborhoods, a secure border, lower costs, and America First leaders who will fight for those priorities," Fischbach said. "I am honored by the trust voters have placed in me to continue delivering results for the district, standing up for our farmers and small businesses, and making sure rural Minnesota always has a strong voice in Washington."
While Fischbach had a clear victory in CD 7, the race in the neighboring 1st Congressional District, which stretches across southern Minnesota, was very close. The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office reported that DFL challenger Jake Johnson had a lead of just 324 votes over Republican incumbent Rep. Brad Finstad.
Johnson has claimed victory, but with such a narrow margin, the CD 1 race could be headed to a recount in the days ahead, KSTP News reported Wednesday.
