By Deb Gau 1 min read

MARSHALL -- Marshall City Council member John Alcorn won re-election in Marshall's Ward 1, receiving over 60% of the vote, according to unofficial vote totals reported by the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office. Ward 1 vote totals came in Tuesday night with 699 votes for Alcorn, and 385 votes for challenger Larry Magrath.

The Ward 1 race was Marshall's only contested city council race, although there were seats up for election in Ward 2 and Ward 3. Ward 2 had a special election, to fill a vacancy left when former council member Amanda Schwartz stepped down earlier this year. Candidate Eric DeGroot ran unopposed in the special election, and received 1,428 votes, the Secretary of State's Office reported.

Council member See Moua-Leske was running unopposed for Ward 2's other council seat. She received 1,401 votes, according to unofficial vote totals. Council member Craig Schafer ran unopposed for re-election in Ward 3, and received 1,115 votes.
