Personal (please list occupation, education and family):
I work at U.S. Bank and hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Minnesota State University. I recently earned my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Capella University. My husband, Zack, and I have four daughters who are 12, 7, 6, and 1.
Why am I running for a school board seat?
I am running for the Minneota School Board because I want to have a voice in the decisions that impact my children, their classmates, and the future of our community. My husband and I moved to Minneota 5½ years ago specifically because of the school district and the opportunities it could provide for our girls. We are proud to call Minneota home and raise our family in a community with such strong values. I want to help ensure that same opportunity continues for all students. I believe parents deserve to be heard and involved in their children's education, and I am willing to ask questions, listen to different perspectives, and make decisions that put students first. My goal is to build on the strengths of our district while preserving the small-town values that make Minneota special.
What are the major issues facing the district?
I believe some of the biggest challenges facing our district are maintaining strong academics, supporting and retaining quality teachers and staff, and using the resources from our recently passed referendum responsibly to meet the changing needs of students. As a small district, we need to be thoughtful and transparent about how those funds are used while preserving educational opportunities and building for the future. Parents and community members should feel informed, heard, and included in decisions that impact our schools. We need to continue moving forward while holding on to the values and sense of community that make Minneota a great place to raise a family.
What are the areas of concern regarding student achievement in the district?
My biggest priority is ensuring students are receiving a strong academic foundation that prepares them for life beyond the classroom. Reading, writing, math, critical thinking, and problem-solving are essential skills that students will carry into adulthood. I believe we need to continue setting high expectations while recognizing that not every student learns the same way or follows the same path. Whether students choose college, trade school, or the workforce, they should graduate with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed. We should continually evaluate student progress, celebrate successes, and address areas where additional support or improvement is needed.
Do you have specific suggestions for improvement?
I would like to see a continued focus on academic excellence, practical life skills, and opportunities that prepare students for the real world. I also believe there is room to strengthen parent involvement and communication between families and the school. Parents should feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and being part of conversations about their children's education. I believe listening to teachers, students, and families is one of the best ways to identify opportunities for improvement. We have a lot to be proud of in Minneota, and my goal is not to change what makes our district great, but to help make it even stronger for current and future generations.
