Personal (please list occupation, education and family):

Hello. My name is Nikki Hinrichs and I have been a citizen of Tracy for 9 years. I was born and raised in Sibley, Iowa, a small town in northwest Iowa. I have worked in health care for the last 25 years and have been the Social Services Director at Prairie View Senior Living for the last 5 years. My husband Brian and I have 4 children and have recently joined the “empty nesters” club.

Why am I running for City Council?

I decided to run for City Council because Tracy matters to me and I care about the future of our community. I want to see our town thrive, our local businesses succeed, and our residents feel proud of the place they call home. I believe Tracy has so much potential. I want to see a stronger downtown, more welcoming appearance on Highway 14, and new opportunities that encourage business, families, and future generations to invest in our community. Most importantly, I want residents to feel heard. I believe in listening to people, being honest and transparent, and helping to make thoughtful decisions that put our community’s best interest first. I know that we may not always agree on everything, but I believe we can make progress when we listen to one another and work together. I am new to city politics and have much to learn, but I have the willingness and eagerness to see my community grow and thrive. I am not running because I think that I have all the answers. I am running because I care, I am willing to listen, and I want to be part of making the difference. Tracy is our home, and I want to help build a future we can be proud of.

What are the major issues facing the city?

I believe Tracy has so much potential, and I think it’s time we take an honest look at where we are today and where we want to be in the future. There are areas of the community that deserve more attention, and I believe we need to start having honest conversations about what is working, what isn’t, and what we can do better. My goal is not to point fingers or criticize, but to identify areas where we can make improvements. I believe we need to continue to look for grants to help make improvements to our existing structures, landscaping, lighting, and signage. We need to continue to try to attract new businesses while continuing to support the existing ones. We also need to continue to look at nicer affordable housing opportunities that appeal to all ages, both single and family units. I feel we need to have conversations about community engagement and quality of life. Residents need reasons to stay involved, families need activities, and local organizations need ways to work together. We need to focus on practical solutions, responsible use of the taxpayers dollars, and a vision for Tracy’s future. Most importantly, we need to listen to the people who live and work here because our community deserves to have a voice in the decisions that shape it.
