MARSHALL -- In November, the Marshall City Council will be considering whether to re-appoint its current city attorneys. It's part of a regular process required by the city charter, said Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes.
At Tuesday's council meeting, Byrnes made the recommendation that the city appoint Pam Whitmore to handle civil matters and Matthew Gross to handle criminal cases for the city. Whitmore, part of the Kennedy and Graven law firm in Minneapolis, is the city of Marshall's current civil attorney. Gross, with the Quarnstrom and Doering law firm in Marshall, is the city's current criminal attorney.
"Our city charter lays out that the mayor makes a nomination every two years to coincide with elections," Byrnes said. "Then that is recommended to the council, and then the council either affirms or doesn't affirm that recommendation."
Byrnes said he was recommending that the council continue the city's current arrangement with Whitmore and Gross. The council will make a decision on approving city attorneys at its next regular meeting, on Nov. 10.
