Why am I running for a school board seat?
I believe that education is a pathway to a better future with a capable workforce. I want to help invest in our community and be a role model for my children. Civic engagement is a responsibility that I take seriously.
What are the major issues facing the District?
In recent years, frequent staff turnover has impacted the district’s students. It is important to responsibly manage our budget to benefit the students and the staff.Taking budget considerations in mind, it is important to live up to our motto, "Honor. Respect. High Expectations."
What are the areas of concern regarding student achievement in the district?
It is a priority to ensure the skills we teach our students help them succeed after high school and not solely for state proficiency exams. As an avid fan of learning, I feel it is important to instill a lifetime love of learning. Recent concerns about average literacy in the U.S, it is important for our students to gain the skill and love of reading for the rest of their lives.
Do you have specific suggestions for improvement?
Our community’s support of athletics is stellar, I would like us to support education with as much vigor. I support a mentoring program for community members/older students to get involved with students. Growing up I regularly met with people in the community who supported my reading and every day skills. This support taught me things I still use to this day.
