Why am I running for a school board seat?
I have been on the Lakeview School Board for eight years. I enjoy being an active community member. It’s important that each community (Cottonwood & Wood Lake) has a voice. Living in Wood Lake gives me that opportunity.
What are the major issues facing the District?
Education is not a top priority for the current state administration. New state mandates forced on our schools with no state funding available puts a burden on our current budget. This cost then gets passed on to our communities and tax payers through voter approved bonds and operating levies.
What are the areas of concern regarding student achievement in the district?
Low test scores are in issue throughout the entire state of Minnesota. Although we are above average in and comparison to the majority of the state, our students and teachers deserve more.
Do you have specific suggestions for improvement?
Rural school districts do not have the same influence at the state level as a larger metro district would. I would encourage all voters to contact their specific state representatives and vote accordingly. I would also ask our neighboring small school districts to do the same.
