MARSHALL -- After months of work, Minnesota Highway 19 in Marshall is set to re-open next week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.

In a Friday news release, MnDOT said East College Drive between Main Street and Bruce Street would open by the end of the day on Monday.

Even after the street re-opens, drivers may still encounter crews putting final touches on the project, MnDOT said. Motorists should travel with care, slow down and give crews space to work. On Friday, workers and equipment were focused on tasks like road striping on East College Drive.

Completion of this segment of reconstruction of Highway 19 (College Drive) wraps up two years of road work in Marshall. The $25.7 million project reconstructed part of College drive with a concrete roadway, replaced city utilities under the street, and added new traffic safety features.

The first half of the project, completed last year, went from Fairgrounds Road to Main Street in Marshall, and added a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 19, Country Club Drive and South Second Street. The second half of construction started this spring. College Drive was closed between Main Street and Bruce Street as work continued.

The construction project made some changes to the traffic controls on East College Drive downtown. The traffic light at the intersection of Lyon Street and College Drive has been removed, and a new concrete island near the intersection of College and West Marshall Street will make a right-in, right-out entry for traffic turning onto or off of Marshall Street.

As part of the construction, a new electric vehicle charging station was also installed near the intersection of Bruce Street and College Drive.

In Friday's news release, MnDOT spokespeople thanked local residents, businesses and the public for their patience and commitment to safety during construction.
