GRANITE FALLS - A hearing in a case against a former YME High School coach and paraprofessional charged with criminal sexual conduct was held Monday in Yellow Medicine County District Court, online court records said.

According to court documents filed Oct. 12, the case would be assigned to a new judge and a settlement conference was scheduled for Nov. 2.

Javon Duncan Hering, 31, of Sacred Heart, is charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, second degree criminal sexual conduct, and two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct in Yellow Medicine County. A criminal complaint alleges that Hering had a sexual relationship with a juvenile victim over a period of four months earlier this year. The complaint alleges that the juvenile first met Hering when he was a paraprofessional and golf coach at Yellow Medicine East High School.

The complaint says Hering’s employment with the YME school district ended this spring.

According to court documents filed Monday, Hering's attorney was requesting that District Court Judge Keith Helgeson be removed from the case, and that the case be assigned to a new judge. Hering's case was reassigned to Judge Laurence Stratton, court documents said.

A future date for a settlement conference in the case was set for Nov. 2.
