Granite Falls fire displaces building residents

GRANITE FALLS -- The residents of a building in Granite Falls were displaced by a fire Wednesday night, the Granite Falls Fire Department said.

In a news release posted to social media, the fire department said it was dispatched to a structure fire on the 500 block of Prentice Street at 9:25 p.m. The department began fighting the fire, and mutual aid was requested. Firefighters did not find any people in the building on their arrival, but a pet was reported as unaccounted for, the release said.

One minor injury was reported, to a person who attempted to put out the fire before firefighters arrived, the fire department said. The fire department's release said residents of the building and a neighbor were displaced by the fire, but did not say how many people were affected.

The fire is under investigation.

Responding at the scene were Granite Falls Police, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota state Patrol, Avera Granite Falls Health Center Ambulance, Granite Falls Light and Power, Granite Falls Public Works, the Sacred Heart Fire Department, Wood Lake Fire Department, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office and the American Red Cross.
