Personal (please list occupation, education and family):
I grew up on a dairy farm north of Lake Wilson and attended Chandler-Lake Wilson schools until the 1992 tornadoes destroyed our high school. I graduated from Murray County Central in Slayton and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Southwest Minnesota State University. After college, I worked on the family farm and married my wife Christine, who is also a SMSU graduate. When we had children I continued to help on the farm and worked as a stay at home dad to our four children. In the past I have served on the Marshall Girls Basketball board for 5 years and the Marshall-Lyon County Library board for 6 years, serving one year as Vice President and one year as President. I have also volunteered many years as a youth sports coach for football, basketball, baseball, and softball. I have been a Marshall resident for the past 27 years.
Why am I running for City Council?
I filed for City Council because I want to help maintain Marshall’s role as a regional economic hub. I also feel it is important to provide amenities to the community that make Marshall a desirable place to live. At the same time we need to keep our taxes at a reasonable level so that people continue to want to make Marshall their home. This balance is an important job for the City Council.
What are the major issues facing the city of Marshall?
Keeping jobs in Marshall and helping to facilitate job growth.
Affordable housing, be it single family homes or rental properties.
Maintaining reasonable tax levels while still providing a high quality of living.
