MARSHALL -- A report was sent to the county attorney's office for consideration of charges against a Marshall man involved in an assault incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Marshall Police said.

Police reported that a 19-year-old Marshall male was arrested for second degree assault in an incident at 12:49 a.m. Wednesday on the 1500 block of State Street.

More details on the incident were released in a safety notification sent to members of the Southwest Minnesota State University campus community on Wednesday. The notification said SMSU Public Safety responded to a report of an altercation at the Sweetland Hall residence hall on the SMSU campus around 12:38 a.m. The notification message said the incident reportedly began as an argument, and escalated when one individual allegedly displayed a knife, and another individual allegedly got a baseball bat.

Marshall Police responded to the incident and arrested one individual for assault, the campus notification said. The notification said medical attention was not needed for the incident.
