Marshall mall property up for sale
Property owner hopes for buyer with \\\\\\\'business synergy\\\\\\\'

MARSHALL -- The Market Street Mall in Marshall is up for sale, the current property owner confirmed this week.
However, that doesn't mean that Kal's Motor Group of Marshall has plans to close, he said.
"At this point, I'm trying to sell the real estate," owner Dan Kallevig said Tuesday. If a buyer for the property had a motorsports or similar business, it would have good synergy with Kal's Motor Group, he said. "It would be an opportunity for whoever buys it.”
Kallevig purchased the Market Street Mall property in 2023, and opened an expansion of his business, Kal's Motor Group. Kal's Motor Group, based out of Wadena, is a family-owned business with locations in Wadena, Marshall and Park Rapids.
Kal's Motor Group of Marshall sells a variety of vehicles and tools like side-by-sides, golf carts, used vehicles, mowers and snowblowers, as well as ice fishing houses. However, Kallevig said he has not had leadership in place in Marshall to be able to take advantage of all the space available at the mall property.
Currently, Kal’s Motor Group and Maurices are the only commercial occupants of the mall building.
Over the weekend, a post advertising the mall property at 1420 East College Drive went up on the Facebook page of realtor Laura Deslauriers. The post said the commercial property sits on approximately 15.2 acres, and features 23 individual units. The mall was built in the mid-1970s.
Marshall EDA Director Lauren Deutz said the EDA had been notified that the mall property was up for sale. Making potential developers aware of the property could be something the EDA does in the coming year, she said.
"We'd love to see it redeveloped," she said.
