MARSHALL -- Viva Knievel founding member Mark Schwandt says the band likes to be the life of the party wherever the band performs.
"We bring the party wherever we go, we give you the permission to go crazy and have the best time of your life, because we will have the best time of our lives recording for you," Schwandt said. "We want to make sure everyone is having the best time possible."
Viva Knievel will be main musical group on stage during Marshall's Sounds of Summer Saturday night.
Viva Knievel was picked because of the band's ability to get an audience excited and their ability to appeal to a wide demographic," said Brock Klaith, president of the Sounds of Summer committee.
"(Viva Knievel) is an eight piece to 100-piece American wrecking machine," Klaith said.
Schwandt said he tries to play cover songs that people know but aren't just the same songs every cover band plays. Schwandt said he and his band love every opportunity he gets to play. When practicing covering a new song, he says he tries to get every guitar riff and every keystroke as close as possible to the original. Through that, he said he's grown to love the music he covers even more.
Local bands T & A and Maiden Dixie will hold an opening act at 5 and 7 p.m. respectively. According to Klaith, The T & A Show and Maiden Dixie have been returning for the Sounds of Summer events for the past couple of years, and that they've been picked because they both play music catered to the sounds of summer demographic. Viva Knievel will start at 9:30 p.m.
"Maiden Dixie have really made a name for themselves in the area," Klaith said.
Friday night is family night and will feature The Singing Qs and The White Keys.
"They'll be playing music the whole family can enjoy," Klaith said.
