Unofficial primary results in for Lyon County

Voters approve building bonds at Minneota Schools

MARSHALL -- Lyon County voters cast their ballots Tuesday to choose candidates for upcoming Minnesota and national elections. Unofficial primary results reported by the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office showed Republican candidates Michele Tafoya and Lisa Demuth, and Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidates Peggy Flanagan, Erik Osberg and Amy Klobuchar leading with Lyon County voters.

Races on the ballot for Tuesday's primary included U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative in Congressional District 7, and Minnesota Governor and Lieutenant. Governor; as well as Minnesota offices like secretary of state, state auditor and attorney general.

In the U.S. Senate primary, Republican candidate Michele Tafoya was in the lead with Lyon County voters, with a total of 1,092 votes, the Secretary of State's Office reported. The next highest result among Republican candidates was Adam Schwarze, with 539 votes. Among the DFL Senate candidates, Peggy Flanagan was in the lead with 714 votes, followed by Angie Craig with 639 votes.

In the Congressional District 7 primary, two DFL candidates were challenging U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach. DFL candidate Erik Osberg was in the lead with Lyon County voters, with 837 votes. DFL candidate Steve Carlson received 508 votes, the Secretary of State's Office said.

In the primary for Minnesota governor and lieutenant governor, Republican candidates Lisa Demuth and Ryan Wilson had the lead, with 1,066 votes. The next highest vote total was for Mike Lindell and Phillip C. Parrish, at 752 votes. On the DFL side, candidates Amy Klobuchar and Ben Schierer received more than 92% of the votes cast, with a total of 1,301 votes, the Secretary of State's Office said.

There were two Republican candidates in the Minnesota Secretary of State primary, running against Secretary of State Steve Simon. In Lyon County, Republican candidate Tad Jude received 1,120 votes, while candidate Wendy Phillips received 1,083 votes, the Secretar of State's Office reported.

There were three Republican candidates in the primary for Minnesota State Auditor, and one DFL candidate, Zack Filipovich. Among the Republican candidates, Scott Jensen received over 70% of the votes cast, with 1,609.

In the Minnesota Attorney General primary, Republican candidate Ronald J. Schutz and DFL cnadidate David J.S. Madgett were challenging Attorney General Keith Ellison. Ellison received the majority of the DFL votes cast in the primary, with a total of 1,134 votes.

There was one local referendum included with Tuesday's primary. The Minneota School District had two ballot questions on building bonds. The first question would authorize the school district to issue $13.1 million in building bonds for infrastructure improvements and deferred maintenance items at the school buildings. The second question would authorize $9.61 million in in building bonds for a variety of school renovations, including building a multipurpose room and a new cafeteria.

According to unofficial vote totals reported by the Secretary of State's Office on Tuesday night, Question 1 received 530 'yes' votes and 340 'no' votes in Lyon County. Question 2 received 452 'yes' votes and 414 'no' votes.
