Traveling best part for carnival workers

MARSHALL -- Traveling the best part of working for a carnival, according to two men operating games at the Lyon County Fair on Wednesday.
"People are great, but traveling and seeing (the sights) is probably the best part," Nick Gander said.
He was working the booth where fair goers throw a softball-sized ball at blocks stacked up on a table.
The Sioux City, Iowa native says he believes in "exploring the world.
"You got to make time (to sightsee) if you want to have a good time," he said. "It’s hard work, but it has weird payoffs, you know. It pays your soul in weird ways. You’re giving the little kids the prizes for nothing, and dads are paying double, and moms are getting free games. That’s just how it goes, you know. It’s fun for everybody. Entertainment value."
In the booth next to Gander's, Denny Lawrence says he has been doing carnival work for 20 years. He was 14-years-old when he began his carnival career.
"Just keep the kids smiling Everybody has fun. Sound entertainment .Like going to movie theater," he said.
He also likes the traveling part of the job.
"That's the best part about it. You meet people all over the world. Through Midwest (Rides). Everywhere from Minnesota to Texas," he said.
