Lyon Co. Fair starts Wednesday

MARSHALL -- Fair time is back again in Lyon County. Organizers and exhibitors are getting ready to host a full schedule of events in Marshall.
The 2026 Lyon County Fair runs Wednesday through Sunday, bringing back lots of returning favorites like midway rides, live music and grandstand events like PRCA Rodeo and the demolition derby.
The fair opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with events like the annual steak fry. Wednesday evening is also when a new event - ranch rodeo - will be held at the fair, said Lyon County Fair Board member Darcy Beek. Competitors in ranch rodeo work in teams to show their abilities at tasks like roping and herding cattle. Beek said the event will be free to the public.
The annual PRCA Rodeo will be returning to the fair on Thursday and Friday nights. The Lyon County Fair draws over 200 contestants a year, competing in events ranging from bareback riding and bull riding, to steer wrestling and barrel racing. A boot scramble event for kids is held both nights.
On Saturday, the fair will honor area community members, with a Century Farms program by the Lyon County Farm Bureau, and honors programs for veterans and senior citizens. On Saturday night, demolition derby will return to the grandstand arena.
On Sunday, the fair will bring back ATV and UTV barrel racing. The event was a hit at last year's fair, despite some muddy conditions.
"Obviously, last year was very wet," Beek said. But ATV enthusiasts still had a great time. "Everyone loved it," she said. Fair organizers are hoping to keep the fun going, although the weather forecast isn't as extreme this weekend.
Live music and entertainment is a key part of the fair. This year, free musical performances will include the Whitesidewalls on Wednesday night, Self-Titled on Thursday, Rough House Rox on Friday, and Time Machine on Saturday. Beek said entertainment for all ages is planned at the fair, with feats of strength by John "Strong Man" Beatty, and performances by the Amazing Bubble Factory.
"They do all sorts of stuff with bubbles. It's fun for kids," Beek said.
Beek said it's special for Lyon County to continue to be able to offer free admission at the fair. It's something that's only possible with the help of sponsors and business and community partners.
"It's great that we have all these sponsors and businesses, that help us keep this a free fair," she said. "We appreciate all of them."
