‘Helpful smiles’ honored by Hy-Vee

MARSHALL -- They're already familiar faces for customers at the Marshall Hy-Vee. Now, three long-time employees are being honored with their faces on the side of a Hy-Vee semi trailer.
On Monday, meat clerk Tom Pickering, bakery clerk Sylvia Nenortas, and recently retired food service manager Michael Schultz watched as a semi pulled up outside the Marshall store. The wrap on the trailer featured their photos, as part of a group of Hy-Vee employees who each had 40 years of service with the company.
Hy-Vee has put pictures of its longest-serving employees on company semi trailers since 1997, company spokespeople said. Marshall Hy-Vee store director Jeff Thompson said it was a special honor to have three Marshall employees featured on the same truck.
Together, Nenortas, Pickering and Schultz have a combined 120 years of experience, Thompson told people gathered outside the Marshall Hy-Vee for the trailer reveal.
The ceremony started inside the Marshall store early Monday afternoon. Nenortas, Pickering and Schultz waited for the semi truck together with a crowd of family, friends and store employees. As the truck pulled up, supporters applauded while Nenortas, Pickering and Schultz headed outside. In addition to getting to see their faces on the semi trailer, the three were also given smaller model versions of the truck - complete with their photos.
