MARSHALL — After three years in business, the owner of Wings Axe Company says he is moving on to a new venture this fall.

On Tuesday, Jett Wing announced on social media that the axe-throwing business in downtown Marshall had officially closed its doors.

Wing told the Independent that it had been a positive experience getting to know the Marshall community through Wings Axe.

“I’ve enjoyed every second of it,” he said. “I’ve been blessed. I’ve had a really good team.”

But Wing said now he’s hoping to be able to spend more time with his family after he and his wife Reagan welcomed a new baby last March.

“Working nights got hard,” Wing said.

The restaurant industry is also a challenging one, he said.

Wing said he and Reagan would be starting on another business venture in Marshall this fall. However, he wasn’t ready to share details yet.

Jett and Reagan Wing opened Wings Axe Company in fall 2023 in the Atlantic Hotel and Landmark Mercantile building at Main Street and College Drive. The idea for an axe-throwing business took shape when Jett was a high school student taking part in the Lyon and Murray County CEO (Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities) program.

Wings Axe Company featured indoor lanes where customers could try throwing axes at targets, as well as a menu of food and beverages. Wings Axe also had mobile axe throwing lanes that could be brought to events.

“What started as a high school project grew into something more than I ever expected,” Wing said in a Facebook post announcing the business’s closing. “The laughs, the bullseyes, the terrible throws, the people who became regulars, and the strangers that became friends – that was all you, Marshall. We have had amazing support from our community.”

Wing said mobile axe throwing events through Wings Axe Company would continue this summer. He said Wings Axe is also honoring gift cards that had already been sold for the business. People with outstanding gift cards can contact Wings Axe via email or through a private message on social media. Wing said he would need information from the customer including their address, the number of the gift card and the amount of the gift card.
