Temporary intersection closure planned

Concrete seam work set at Lyon/College intersection

MARSHALL — Drivers in Marshall should be aware of a possible temporary road closing on part of Lyon Street downtown today, contractors said.

In a construction update this week, Erika Coudron of R and G Construction said crews will need to close the Lyon Street/East College Drive intersection in order to saw and seal concrete joints in the new road surface.

Depending on weather, crews plan to close the Lyon Street crossing from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on July 2. The joint sealing work may not take the entire four-hour period, Coudron said.

Part of East College Drive, between Main Street and North Third Street, remains closed to traffic for construction. Aside from Thursday’s planned work, the Lyon Street intersection is open to allow local traffic a way to cross College Drive downtown.

Construction work on Highway 19 will be paused starting Friday for the July 4 holiday, Coudron said. Work will resume on Monday.

Reconstruction of Highway 19 in Marshall continues to make progress, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said in a Wednesday update. Downtown, concrete paving at the intersection of Redwood Street and College Drive has been completed, and landscaping work is scheduled to begin. At the same time, however, there is still construction going on. Crews are continuing to add concrete sidewalks, and accessibility components, to make the project ADA-compliant.

Next week, work to put in streetlight poles along College Drive downtown is planned to begin.

The intersection of Main Street and East College Drive re-opened last weekend, and installation work for the traffic signal system at the intersection is nearly complete, MnDOT said.

Construction is still ongoing at the intersection of College Drive and Bruce Street, but crews are making progress there too, MnDOT said. This week, installation work for new water mains was nearly complete. Next week, crews will start paving at the intersection, along with doing underground work for the stop light system.

Next week, the active construction zone along College Drive will be between High Street and Hill Street, MnDOT said. Sanitary sewer work is planned to be completed in this area, and crews will start installing water mains.

The stretch of College Drive between High Street and Hill Street will remain closed to traffic. However, the Hill Street intersection will be open to allow local traffic to cross College Drive. Minnesota Street is also open at College Drive to allow access to local businesses.

Starting at $3.95/week.
