MARSHALL -- Jesse Ray Adams believes in giving back to his community.

Tara Johnson use to volunteer at Esther's Kitchen in Marshall providing free meals.

Both are employees at Archer Daniels Midland Company in Marshall but were volunteering at the Farmers Market next to the Marshall Area YMCA on Saturday. They sat at an information table to help out Emily Boverhof with the Farmers Market, who was sitting at the next table.

Besides urging their employees to volunteer, ADM has supported the Farmers Market through donating to the Kids Power of Produce and Senior Power of Produce programs.

"From ages 2 to 16 and (youths) get four dollars to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. Seniors over fifth-five can also get four dollars," Boverhof said. "The kids started as a way to get kids to come to the farmers market. The seniors started with COVID, and then it was originally funded by Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging. And since then, we’ve like branched out into doing community support for it. That's where ADM comes in."

Boverhof also said each time someone comes to the market with an EBT card, they can get a $10 match with Market Bucks. She said the program is also good at the Tuesday Farmers Market on Third Street in Marshall.

"I’ve been volunteering at events like this for years. Not necessarily all for ADM, but in the past I did mission work for kids, building beds for folks in Houston, Texas, low-income housing," Adams said.

He is attending Murray State University in Kentucky and is a facility environmental health and safety intern with ADM.

"I love doing volunteer work. To be able to give, to be able to give back to the community in any way I can, whether it’s for access service or soup kitchens or what have you, I think it’s great, and I think more communities should have those services," Adams said.

ADM Office Assistant Brenda Dubbledee also worked at the information table Saturday. She was volunteering for the first time.

"It is a lot of work. .. But it’s wonderful," she said.
