SMSU hosts annual musical and play summer productions

The "Door to Door" play featured actors and actresses Lylah Brockberg, Nahtan Larsen, Liliana Lonien, Arthur O'Rourke, Hailey Tallam, Ethan Shuckhart, Natalie Shuckhart, and Astrid Snyder

Last Friday and Saturday, the SMSU Children’s Theatre hosted their third through eighth grade musical production of “Twinderella” and their high school production of the play “Door to Door.”

“Twinderella” is a comedic parody of its original that features Cinderella “and her twin brother Bob.” The musical includes a variety of changes, including replacing the ballroom dance with a baseball game and Bob’s fairy godfather with an actual godfather, not dissimilar to a 1972 Al Pacino, except performed by a middle schooler.

The high school play “Door to Door” included a variety of short stories all revolving around the concept of opening doors and making decisions. The short stories varied from comedic – having a monster under your bed or a terrible first date – to more serious stories, like not being able to move on from a girlfriend who died or the decision you make every day to “live or die.”

The performances were rehearsed, propped, and auditioned for in the span of two weeks, according to Sheila Tabaka, the children’s musical art director. Many of the high school performers also acted as backstage helpers for the children’s musical.

Starting at $3.95/week.
