More closures ahead for East College Drive
New closure starts Monday; Main Street intersection makes progress
MARSHALL — The intersection of Main Street and College Drive in Marshall is planned to re-open in about a week, construction representatives said. But before then, drivers will need to watch out for another section of closed road on East College Drive.
In construction updates this week, Erika Coudron of R and G Construction said starting Monday, June 22, crews will begin tearing out the road surface on East College between High Street and Hill Street. East College Drive in that area will be closed intermittently, as underground work progresses.
There will be temporary crossings of College Drive open in the construction area, either on High Street, Whitney Street or Hill Street. College Drive will remain open from North Third Street to Park Avenue, and at Minnesota Street to provide access to local businesses.
Coudron said Wednesday that work on the Main/College intersection downtown is making good progress.
“It’s coming along great,” she said. Concrete paving of the intersection has been completed, and crews are continuing to work on installing traffic signals, and accessibility improvements.
“Next week, it’s all about that signal system,” Coudron said.
Weather permitting, contractors are working to have the Main Street intersection re-opened by Friday, June 26.
This week, street construction also made progress downtown and at the intersection of East College Drive and Bruce Street, Coudron said. Downtown, concrete paving work was completed at the intersection of College Drive and Lyon Street. The intersection is now open for traffic to cross College Drive, while work has moved to the West Redwood Street/College Drive intersection.
At the Bruce Street intersection, storm sewer and water main installation was nearing completion, and work grading the roadway had started.
