Lynd school board accepts Riebel’s resignation

LYND — The Lynd School Board held a special meeting last week and voted to accept Superintendent Misty Riebel’s resignation effective June 30.

Riebel is in her first year of serving as the Lynd superintendent.

The news of Riebel’s resignation comes after the school board approved a handful of budget reductions to take place next school year at the May 11 meeting. One of the actions approved was to restructure the administration, including the elimination of the superintendent and principal positions.

The position will change to one full-time superintendent-principal role, along with a full-time dean of students position. The board noted this move will save approximately $20,000.

Along with other approved actions taken to reduce costs at the May 11 meeting, the board approved restructuring the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) department to save about $23,000, technology expenditure reductions to save around $15,000, and making custodial reductions to save about $17,000 in costs.

At the April 13 board meeting, according to the agenda minutes, the board also approved to reduce registered nurse services and move into a nurse contract with the Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC), reduce behavioral analyst services through SWWC and to reduce classroom budgets to $200.00 per classroom, with all actions to take place in the upcoming 2026-27 school year.

Current Lynd school principal Jason Swenson and school nurse Bev Seehusen were placed on administrative leave in the middle of April, to which district leadership told the Independent after the May 11 meeting they cannot share more information of the situation publicly at this time, citing the following of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, including Minnesota Statutes section 13.43, which governs private personnel data.

The Lynd School Board also held a special meeting on Saturday, where it approved the offering of an interim superintendent position to Brad Johnson, dependent on agreement of contract terms.

The next Lynd school board meeting is scheduled for June 8 at 6 p.m. at the school, which is the final scheduled meeting before the new fiscal year begins for schools on July 1. The meeting is open to the public.

Starting at $3.95/week.
