Bruce St./College Dr. intersection closes Tuesday

MARSHALL — Another major intersection in Marshall will close while construction continues on Highway 19, contractors said Friday.

The intersection of Highway 19 (East College Drive) and Bruce street in Marshall will be closed to traffic starting Tuesday morning, said Erika Coudron of R and G Construction, in a traffic alert. Bruce Street will be also be closed from Willow Street to Charles Avenue.

The street closures come as contractors continue working to replace water and sewer lines under the roadway. Coudron said the traffic signal system at the intersection of Bruce Street and College Drive will also be replaced. Crews will also be working to install an electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot at the southwest corner of the intersection.

While the intersection is closed, local businesses can be accessed on College Drive from the west by coming in on North Third Street, and from the east by coming in from Highway 23. However, traffic won’t be able to cross Bruce Street. Motorists should also watch for additional signage showing how to access Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, Coudron said.

The intersections of Bruce and Willow Street and Bruce Street and Charles Avenue will stay open during construction, Coudron said.

At the same time that the Bruce Street intersection is closed, the intersection of College Drive and Main Street will also remain closed for construction. East College Drive between Main Street and the Liberty Park bridge is also closed. However, Redwood Street is open to allow local traffic to cross College Drive in the construction zone.

Utility and street work in Marshall’s downtown area continued to make progress this week, Coudron said. Crews completed grading work between Lyon and Marshall Streets, and put down a gravel base for the roadway. They were also installing curbs and gutters in the same area, and doing underground electrical work for street lights.

Concrete paving work on the roadway in that area is planned to begin next week, Coudron said. Concrete approach panels for the bridge near Liberty Park were scheduled to be poured on Thursday.

Construction work in the intersection of Main Street and East College Drive also made progress last week. Coudron said the installation of new sewer lines under the intersection, and grading work, have been completed. Placing gravel in the intersection was planned to be completed Thursday.

Starting at $3.95/week.
