Wabasso water project delayed
City council to discuss project April 13
WABASSO — A water treatment project in the city of Wabasso is temporarily on pause due to “unforeseen circumstances,” a post on the city’s social media said this week.
On Friday, Wabasso City Attorney Matt Novak said he could not provide more detailed information at that time on why the project was paused. However, the matter will be discussed by the Wabasso City Council at its next regular meeting April 13.
The city of Wabasso planned to make improvements to its municipal water supply and treatment process, said project engineer Matthew Miller of Bolton & Menk. A brief description of the project said it would replace one of the city’s wells and reconstruct raw water supply lines. The project would also make updates to Wabasso’s water treatment facility, including filter rehabilitation, control system upgrades, replacing the facility’s chemical feed system, and replacing pipes.
Last week, Wabasso City Clerk/Treasurer Administrator Brandon Baune posted on the city’s Facebook page that the Wabasso City Council were holding a special meeting March 30 to discuss the water treatment and well upgrade project. On April 1, Baune posted that, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the project is on hold while city council and staff work on a solution.”
On Friday, Novak said the city was able to provide the Independent with a short statement on the matter. The statement said the water plant project was “on a temporary pause,” and the matter will be on the agenda at the April 13 council meeting.
Miller said the pause in the work will not affect Wabasso’s water supply or quality.
