Wabasso terminates contractor in city water project
WABASSO — The city of Wabasso will be terminating the general contractor in an improvement project for the city’s water treatment facility and wells. That action came after the city learned the general contractor had an issue with their performance and payment bonds, said Wabasso City Attorney Matt Novak.
In a statement Thursday, Novak said the city of Wabasso had given the contractor an opportunity to fix the problem with the performance and payment bonds, but the issue was not resolved.
In the statement, Novak said the city of Wabasso provided the contractor with a termination notice, pursuant to the contract terms.
Earlier this month, the city of Wabasso had announced on social media that the water treatment project was on a temporary pause. Novak had said the reasons for the pause couldn’t be shared at that time.
The matter went before the Wabasso City Council on April 13.
Wabasso had planned to replace one of the city’s wells and reconstruct raw water supply lines. The improvement project would also make updates to Wabasso’s water treatment facility, including filter rehabilitation, control system upgrades, replacing the facility’s chemical feed system, and replacing pipes.
After final termination of the current contractor, Wabasso will likely rebid the remaining work on the project, Novak said. He said the delay in the project shouldn’t affect the water supply or quality in the city.
