Two injured in Wabasso school bus accident

WABASSO — Two people, including a Wabasso Public School student, were injured in an accident involving a school bus and another vehicle Wednesday morning, Wabasso Superintendent Jon Fulton said.

In a message to parents posted Wednesday on the Wabasso Public School Facebook page, Fulton said a Wabasso school bus transporting students was involved in an accident with another vehicle around 8 a.m. on Redwood County Road 7 south of Seaforth.

“Emergency personnel were notified immediately and assisted with the situation,” Fulton said in the message to parents. “We are thankful for the State Patrol, parents, fire department, sheriff and ambulance crews in our area.”

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said responders were dispatched to a collision involving a school bus with more than 20 occupants and an SUV. While on the scene, the Sheriff’s Office found that the SUV had rear-ended the bus.

The Sheriff’s Office said at least one student on the school bus, and the driver of the SUV, were transported to the hospital.

Fulton said Wabasso school counselors would be available to students experiencing anxiety after the accident.
