Three MPS board seats up for election

MARSHALL — There will be a trio of Marshall Public School school board seats up for election this upcoming November.

The school board approved the resolution at Monday’s meeting, calling for the school district general election for three school board members on a four-year term each.

Sara Runchey, Jeff Chapman and Sara Brink’s seats will be open. The three will not be seeking to renew their terms due to personal decisions for fulfilling their time serving the district.

Runchey currently serves as the board vice chair and is concluding her second term. She has served on the board for eight years. Brink will be finishing up her first term and has been on the board for four years, serving as the board treasurer.

Chapman has been the longest-serving member of the three, and is wrapping up his sixth term and 24th year of service on the school board.

The filing period for those interested in running for a board seat will open in July, with more information to come.

“We have scheduled a session with Ray Queener (senior consultant) from TeamWorks like we have done before for people who have questions about being a board member, what the role looks like and what that might be,” Marshall superintendent Jeremy Williams said. “We will be advertising that, we are just getting that on the calendar, but he will come down and do that again. We will post more about the open seats as we get a little further in.”

TeamWorks partners with school districts to help navigate school leadership by providing tools, processes and practices for guidance.

Board Chair Matt Coleman and board directors Mary Swanson and Timothy Van Moer will continue serving on the board. They each still have time left in their terms.

The general election for the school board seats will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Starting at $3.95/week.
