Marshall approves quotes for sewer repair
MARSHALL — Quotes to complete sewer repairs in three different areas of Marshall came in below an engineer’s estimate, Marshall city staff said this week.
At Tuesday’s Marshall City Council meeting, council members approved a roughly $40,000 quote for the repair work.
Marshall Public Works director Jason Anderson said the proposed sanitary sewer repairs would focus on areas where the sewer line had collapsed or partially collapsed.
“This project is a repair at three different locations,” Anderson said.
The first portion of work was needed at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Evergreen Avenue, where there was about 10 feet of sanitary sewer pipe that needed to be repaired. A longer stretch of sewer pipe, roughly 70 feet, needed to be repaired in the back yard areas south of Maple street. There was also about 20 feet of sanitary sewer that needed to be repaired at the intersection of Dogwood Avenue and Hackberry Drive. Anderson said the Dogwood/Hackberry repair work would also include a storm sewer that crossed over the damaged sewer line.
“On April 9, we received quotes for this work. We received two quotes,” Anderson said. Of the two, the apparent low quote, from D&G Excavating, came to $40,440. “Our estimate was a little over $51,000 for this project,” Anderson said.
Funding for the project would come from the city’s wastewater budget, he said.
Council members voted to approve the quote from D&G Excavating.
