Weather to go from warm to wintry

This week brings a couple of chances for snow in the forecast

MARSHALL — The weather in southwest Minnesota is going from warm to wintry again this week, with a couple different waves of snow and sleet forecast for the region.

There are two main chances for snow in the Marshall area this week, said Tim Masters, a technician at the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls

“The bigger one is going to be Wednesday night into Friday morning,” Masters said. Another chance will be Friday into Saturday.

Masters said the weather system coming through the region will be a fairly wet one, with a potential for a mix of wintry precipitation like snow, sleet and rain.

A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 10 p.m. today to 6 p.m. Thursday, in an area including Lincoln, Lyon, Murray and Pipestone counties, the NWS said. The advisory said mixed precipitation was expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations of up to two inches, and ice accumulations of around two-tenths of an inch.

On Tuesday, the NWS reported that snow and ice could affect roads in the region. However, changes in the track of the storm would also change where the biggest impacts were.

If area residents are traveling over the weekend, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on weather and road conditions, Masters said.

“Monitor your local forecast, especially if you have any travel plans,” he said.

Sunnier weather is coming back early next week, NWS forecasts said. However, temperatures will still be cool, with daytime high temperatures in the 40s.

Starting at $3.95/week.
