Lyon Co. approves finance director position

MARSHALL — This week, Lyon County Commissioners approved a reorganized county finance director position.

The proposed job description for the position, which came before the county board on Tuesday, was part of reorganization that county staff did last summer, said Lyon County Administrator Loren Stomberg.

The reorganizing had also included Aurora Heard moving from the county Auditor/Treasurer position to director of Human Resources and John Xiong became county Auditor/Treasurer.

During Tuesday’s county board meeting, Heard presented commissioners with the new description of the county finance director’s position and duties. Heard said the current incumbent for the position was Abby Vandelanotte.

“(Aurora) did meet with the personnel committee, and we advised that it come before the whole board,” said Commissioner Todd Draper.

The finance director job description presented to commissioners included duties like internally auditing financial records, providing reports to state and federal agencies, assisting outside auditors during annual audits, and certifying tax searches. The finance director would make sure the county was compliant with generally accepted accounting principles and county financial and accounting reporting standards. The finance director would also manage finance staff in the absence of the Lyon County Auditor/Treasurer.

The finance director position would be exempt from overtime pay, and would report to the county administrator, the job description said.

“This, I think kind of finalizes the whole reorganization that we did this summer,” Stomberg said of the finance director position.

Commissioners didn’t have a lot of discussion on the reorganized finance director position. They voted to approve the job description.

Starting at $3.95/week.
