Adult Community Center plans summer kickoff
MARSHALL — The Marshall Adult Community Center is planning to host an event for senior citizens to kick off the summer. A request to close part of the parking lot outside the ACC on May 19 was approved by the Marshall City Council on Tuesday.
Coordinator Katie Brusven said the summer kickoff is something that the ACC has done a couple of times in the past.
“The goal is, how do we get seniors out of isolation and loneliness?” Brusven said. Offering low-cost opportunities to have fun and socialize was one way the ACC tries to bring seniors together, she said. Entertainment like music is something that draws people out, she said.
The May 19 kickoff will feature some different fun events, Brusven said. “We’ve got some entertainment scheduled, we’ll have lunch, and then we have games in the afternoon,” she said. “It should be a fun time.”
The ACC has hosted summer kickoff events a couple of times before, Brusven said. However, they weren’t always outdoors. One year, the kickoff was moved inside due to rainy weather.
