MARSHALL — An area business is starting a new chapter in its long history. This month, Larson’s Home Furnishings in Marshall announced new store ownership.

Starting March 1, longtime Larson’s employee Kandice Haney officially took ownership of the Marshall store. Scott Larson will keep ownership of Larson’s Home Furnishings in Redwood Falls.

“It is time for me to pass the business to the next generation,” Scott Larson said in a news release. Larson is the fourth-generation owner of Larson’s Home Furnishings. “I’ve been proud to continue a furniture and service tradition that dates back to 1908, and equally proud that our Marshall store celebrated 70 years last year.”

Haney said that while she is planning some updates at the Marshall store, she wants to keep the Larson’s legacy going.

“Our main goals here are keeping that tradition of service,” Haney said Wednesday. “It’s a continuation of a legacy.”

Haney said the new name of the Marshall store will be Larson’s Furniture & Design. The change would acknowledge the Larson’s history, while also helping to differentiate between the Marshall and Redwood Falls stores. “We’ve always been a little heavier on the design side of things” in Marshall, she said.

Haney started working at Larson’s eight years ago, and has experience in both home furnishings and interior design. The experience was something that she really enjoyed.

“I found I loved serving the community,” Haney said. The business was also “blessed” with knowledgeable and hard-working employees, she said.

Getting to know the employees and customers at Larson’s was a big part of what made her job positive, Haney said.

“We have a lot of fun here,” she said. Haney said customers also enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

The decision on whether to re-name the business was one that took a lot of thought, Haney said. “We went through about six months of, do we keep it Larson’s?” she said. Ultimately, she said, “I really wanted to stay very family and tradition-oriented.”

Haney said she also hoped to be able to make some updates at the Marshall store, including some new paint and signage, and moving toward some more digital systems.

“Our presence in the community will be growing,” Haney said. Larson’s Furniture & Design doesn’t only serve Marshall, but surrounding areas as well, she said.

Larson said he was happy that Haney was continuing the business in Marshall. “She is knowledgeable, capable, and is committed to continuing to serve the Marshall area,” he said.

Larson said the Marshall and Redwood Falls stores will continue to complement each other. “Keeping ownership close to the communities we serve is always best,” he said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
