MARSHALL — In its monthly tradition, the Marshall Public School Board recgonized a student from each school site at Tuesday night’s school board meeting for the February session of Tiger Spotlight.

Tiger Spotlight is held each month at a school board meeting that honors students of the month, with nominations coming from staff and faculty. The students and families are welcomed to attend the meeting, while a bio is read about each student.

Milo Her was nominated by Amy Barker as Park Side Elementary’s student of the month.

“Milo is one of the kindest and hardest working students I have had the pleasure of working with. In addition, he always demonstrates caring and respect for his classmates and teachers,” Barker said in her nomination. “He is quick to help both teachers and classmates, whether that means helping a friend find the right page or kindly getting extra milk for someone who needs it. He takes great pride in his work and always puts forth his best effort … Milo consistently shows our Tiger Pride traits and is a fantastic role model for other students at Park Side.”

For Southview Elementary, Jamie MacKinnon selected Carter Anderson for the honor.

“Carter is such a joy to have in class. He is a role model for his peers and is always showing Tiger Pride here at Southview. I can always count on him to make good choices in and out of the classroom,” MacKinnon said. “He is kind to everyone, and others love to be around him. In class, he is a hard worker. He puts forth his best effort and does a great job on his schoolwork. He always gets his homework done and turned in on time. I am very fortunate to have him in my class this year, and I know he will continue to do great things next year at the middle school.”

Warda Mohamed was nominated for the middle school’s Tiger Spotlight by Laura Miller, Karen Peterson and Derek Long.

“Warda is an excellent student. She welcomes everyone with a smile the minute she walks in the room. She is kind to everyone and is always willing to help out. Warda is an extremely hard worker. When something is difficult for her, she asks questions to help her understand what is going on,” Miller, Peterson and Long said in their nomination. “She is a great role model for those students around her as she sets an example of how to continue to work hard when something doesn’t come easily to you. She is always prepared for class and is very responsible.”

For Marshall High School, Sabino Us received the recognition and was selected by Neenah Eben.

“(Us) has quickly made a remarkable impression through his kindness, leadership, and willingness to serve others,” Eben said. “During a recent reading visit to Parkside by (Eben’s) Contemporary Literature and Writing class, Sabino volunteered to read in Spanish for a young student who had just arrived in the country and spoke very limited English. Not only did he read children’s books in Spanish, but he also translated additional stories on the spot, helping the young student feel welcomed and included … Sabino handled the moment with humility and pride. His actions demonstrated compassion, cultural awareness, and the ability to make meaningful connections — Qualities that exemplify what it means to be a Tiger.”

Tayden Azure was nominated by Shannon Gorter as the student of the month for the Area Learning Center (ALC).

“Since arriving at the ALC, Tayden has consistently demonstrated responsibility for his education and a strong work ethic. He walks in each day with a positive attitude and willingness to accomplish the day’s tasks,” Gorter said. “He is a personable young man who treats everyone with kindness and respect. He never fails to ask how your day is going or tell you something about his day. He approaches life with a high level of integrity and we look forward to seeing where life takes him.”

The school board will continue the Tiger Spotlight tradition each month throughout the remainder of the school year.

Starting at $3.95/week.
