Lyon Co. extends West Central Sanitation recycling contract

MARSHALL — West Central Sanitation will continue to provide recycling pickup services for Lyon County. On Tuesday, county commissioners voted to extend the recycling contract for five years.

“The recycling agreement is up for renewal at the end of April,” said Lyon County environmental administrator Roger Schroeder.

Schroeder said discussions about possibly extending the recycling contract with West Central Sanitation started last year with members of the county solid waste commission.

“We met with the contractor, and they expressed an interest in continuing the agreement for five years,” he said.

Schroeder said the only significant change to the agreement would be to include an annual consumer price index increase. The CPI increase would help prevent substantial initial changes in cost to the county.

“The benefit is that the contractor doesn’t have to predict how much inflation is going to happen over the life of the contract,” Schroeder said. “So our thought is that we have better pricing right out of the start of the first year.”

Schroeder said Yellow Medicine County has also done CPI increases for recycling services.

Schroeder said at first, the renewed agreement will keep its current rate with the county.

“Again, this comes out of the solid waste tax assessment dollars, to provide the service for the county residents,” Schroeder said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
