New owner of Lamberton News plans on carrying on newspaper legacy
LAMBERTON — After more than 50 years, an area weekly newspaper has changed owners. This week, the Lamberton News announced that new publisher Wendy Krier officially took ownership of the paper on Feb. 17.
Krier has been the publisher of the Springfield Advance-Press for the past five years.
The Lamberton News has had a long history of family ownership. Joseph and Dorothy Dietl bought the newspaper in 1969, a news release said. The Dietl family continued a tradition that started when the Lamberton News was founded in 1920.
Krier said she was honored to continue that legacy.
“I look forward to carrying on the newspaper’s traditions and getting to know the Lamberton community,” she said in the news release.
The news release said the Lamberton paper’s current staff will stay in place, including managing editor Shari Kieper, composition staff member Jan Benedict, circulation and proofreading staff member Pam Jensen, and bookkeeper Melanie Hanneman.
Krier has lived in Minnesota since 2019. She brings nearly 20 years of newspaper experience to her new role as Lamberton News publisher, the news release said.
Krier said she plans to maintain the newspaper’s strong print presence, while also expanding digital access in the future.
“Community journalism is deeply important to me.” Krier said. “My role is to serve the community and continue the tradition of local news.”
