Community members stay informed with State of City

MARSHALL — Some of the people attending Marshall’s State of the City address Wednesday had specific topics they wanted to know about. Others said they were just curious. But either way, the event was a chance to learn about what was going on in the city over the past year.

“It’s good to be informed. It was all interesting, just to hear updates of things that we had heard in the past, and kind of hear how everything is progressing,” said audience member Erica Gervais. “There’s always a lot going on.”

Ana Marrero said she was most interested in hearing about what was coming next for construction on Highway 19 in Marshall, and the future of the Marshall Aquatic Center.

“My impression is that they’re still planning,” for what would come next for the old aquatic center, Marrero said. But she said it was good to get an update of where the project was going.

It was positive to have a chance to hear information from the city, Marrero said.

“It’s really nice,” Marrero said. She said she had moved to Marshall a couple of years ago, and hadn’t had a similar option before. “Things would just happen, and it’s like ‘Oh, I guess we’re doing this now.'”

“Any time there’s development and positive news, it’s good stuff,” said audience member Ron Halgerson. Halgerson took part in the Q&A portion of the event, looking for more information on what was happening with the planned Solugen chemical plant in Marshall.

Halgerson said he tried to attend the State of the City each year. “It’s just important that community people keep engaged, and aware of things we do to make life in Marshall better.”

Some audience members, like Lee and Norma Raske, said they were simply interested to hear more about what was going on in Marshall. It was also positive that event organizers and presenters were on top of things, Norma Raske said.

“It’s always interesting,” Lee Raske said of the presentation.
