Zimmerman pretrial hearing delayed until March
NEW ULM — The omnibus pretrial hearing for Randy Zimmerman for the first-degree murder of Justin Reinarts and Tabitha Trescott was pushed back to March 16.
The hearing was delayed on request from Zimmerman’s defense team. Lead Defense Attorney Greg Handevidt informed Judge Robert Docherty that the defense had not completed discovery and requested a 30-day extension of the omnibus hearing to complete information gathering before the trial.
The extension was granted.
Zimmerman is charged with two counts of premeditated murder in the first degree, two counts of felony murder in the first degree, one count of murder in the first degree with a pattern of domestic abuse, two counts of murder in the second degree with intent, one count of burglary in the first degree with a dangerous weapon and assault in the second degree. The five first-degree murder counts each carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment without a chance for parole.
Zimmerman is alleged to have broken into Justin Reinarts’ home in Hanska on Nov. 2, shooting him while he slept and then shooting and killing Tabitha Trescott.
