Westbrook man injured in garage fire
WESTBROOK — A man was taken to a Minneapolis burn center after an explosion and garage fire at a Westbrook residence this week, the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office said.
In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Frank Wood, 58, of Westbrook. Wood was taken to Sanford Westbrook Medical Center and transferred to Hennepin Health Care Burn Center.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 10:23 a.m. Monday, Cottonwood County responders received a 911 call reporting a fire in a garage, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The caller said he was working in his garage at a residence in Westbrook when there was an explosion, the Sheriff’s Office said. The caller went on to say that the garage was on fire, and that he was burned.
When Westbrook Fire and Ambulance arrived at the scene, the garage was fully engulfed by fire, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Westbrook Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Storden and Dovray Fire Departments.
Wood was transported to the hospital, and later taken to Minneapolis for burn treatment, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Westbrook Fire Department, Storden Fire Department, Dovray Fire Department, Westbrook Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives all responded at the scene.
