Lamprecht remembered as ‘pillar’ in community

MARSHALL — There were a lot of ways Bruce Lamprecht was a part of his hometown – whether it was through the schools, community clubs or his church.

“Whatever he was involved in, he gave it his all, always,” said Krista Bjella, executive director of the Pride in the Tiger Foundation in Marshall. Bjella said Lamprecht put his energy and knowledge to good use around the community.

Lamprecht, a longtime Marshall resident and former business services director at Marshall Public Schools, died Friday at the Prairie Home Hospice – Lockwood House in Marshall. He was 73.

Lamprecht was born in Redwood Falls. In his early years, he lived on a farm near Holloway before moving to Tracy. He went on to graduate from Moorhead State College with a business and marketing degree.

Bruce and his wife Vicki moved to Marshall in 1979. Bruce managed the food service department at what is now Southwest Minnesota State University, managed the Best Western Marshall Inn, and later became business services director for Marshall Public Schools. Lamprecht worked for the school district from 1993 until he retired in 2018.

“I remember how kind he was to everybody,” Marshall School Board chairman Matt Coleman said of Lamprecht. Coleman began serving on the school board in 2006, and not only worked with Lamprecht, but knew him in the community. Managing school district finances is a complicated task, but Lamprecht always kept ahead of what was going on, Coleman said.

Bruce was known for his calm demeanor, Coleman said. “He kept everyone at an even keel.”

Lamprecht was active in the Marshall community in many ways. He was part of the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was active with the Marshall Sunrise Rotary, First Lutheran Church and the Pride in the Tiger Foundation.

“One of the things I appreciated about Bruce the most was what I call quiet leadership,” said Harry Weilage, one of Lamprecht’s fellow Rotary members. Weilage said those leadership skills were something that Lamprecht brought to many local Rotary projects.

“He was just a pillar in the community,” said Marshall resident and Rotary member Eric Luther. Lamprecht was someone who could be depended on to be there to help out with Rotary projects, or even to flip pancakes or burgers at club fundraisers. “He wasn’t afraid to get involved,” Luther said.

Weilage said Lamprecht also liked working on national or international projects in Rotary, “That gave Marshall a sense of being part of a bigger community.”

At First Lutheran Church, Lamprecht was also very involved, and served on church committees. “He was one of those key people,” Luther said.

Even after retiring from MPS, Lamprecht was still active in helping support Marshall schools. At the Pride in the Tiger Foundation, “(Bruce) was a consummate professional in everything he did,” Bjella said. Lamprecht’s deep understanding of school finances was very helpful for the Foundation, she said.

Both Bruce and Vicki Lamprecht were named to the PITF Hall of Honor in 2025.

“He really cared about kids – ensuring they were safe, and that they had a good school experience,” Bjella said. “He had a very giving heart, for sure.”

“He’s going to be really missed,” Coleman said.

Services for Lamprecht will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, with a prayer service at 7:30. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
