Holiday storefront winners named

Graceful Marilyn windows were a hit with voters in Marshall

This week, Graceful Marilyn Quilt Shoppe owners Michelle Salfer and Heather Rokeh received the trophy from the holiday display contest in Marshall’s downtown. A total of 16 local businesses took part in the competition during the month of December.

MARSHALL — Cozy and colorful were the two themes in the front windows at the Graceful Marilyn Quilt Shoppe this Christmas. And they definitely caught the eyes of voters in a Marshall downtown storefront contest.

On Friday, Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce staff presented Graceful Marilyn owners Michelle Salfer and Heather Rokeh with the storefront display contest trophy.

“We were excited,” Rokeh said of hearing the news.

“We were lucky that we had two windows to decorate instead of just one,” she said. One window at Graceful Marilyn featured a more traditional Christmas look, while the other was themed around the movie “Elf,” to go along with the fabrics in two different quilts.

A total of 16 downtown Marshall businesses took part in the holiday display competition during the month of December. Businesses got to showcase their creativity in decorating, and passers-by could vote for their favorite shop windows by scanning a QR code.

Sam Lund, events specialist at the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, said about 120 people voted in the contest.

“It’s a good turnout for our first year,” Lund said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
