Hearings planned for Marshall street, parks projects
MARSHALL — The Marshall City Council will be considering whether to authorize funding of street reconstructions and other projects, starting with a couple of public hearings on Feb. 10.
One of the upcoming hearings will focus on the city’s street reconstruction plan and the issuance of street reconstruction bonds. The second hearing will be about the approval of abatement and the issuance of abatement bonds.
The bonds and abatement would fund projects including street work on North High Street and South Fifth Street, and improvements at Legion Field and athletic fields along Channel Parkway.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, council members approved a resolution calling for the two public hearings. The item was approved as part of the council’s consent agenda, and was not discussed during the meeting.
The street reconstruction plan that will be discussed Feb. 10 covers the city’s planned street projects for 2026 through 2030. Part of the plan calls for the city to issue bonds to finance projects on North High Street and South Fifth Street. The North High Street project would reconstruct the street and replace water and sewer lines along High Street between North Fourth Street and Oak Street. The South Fifth Street project would do the same on South Fifth between Main and Saratoga Street.
The resolution calling for the public hearings said the city proposes to finance the street projects with bonds not to exceed $2.5 million. The resolution also said the city proposes to issue abatement bonds not to exceed $840,000 for parks projects, including updates to restrooms at Legion Field, and irrigation and playground equipment at the athletic fields along Channel Parkway.
Both public hearings will be held during the city council’s Feb. 10 meeting.
