Fire destroys Clarkfield home
CLARKFIELD — A house fire destroyed a residence in Clarkfield on Saturday afternoon, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said.
The occupants of the residence, as well as pets, were able to get out without injury, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The fire is under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Yellow Medicine County dispatch received a call of a house fire around 12:49 p.m. Saturday. On arrival in Clarkfield, the Sheriff’s Office and the Clarkfield Fire Department found the residence fully engulfed in flames, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Occupants of the residence were able to get out safely, and did not need medical treatment. However, the residence was a total loss, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Clarkfield Fire Department, Boyd Fire Department and Clarkfield Ambulance all responded at the fire scene.
Responders from the Red Cross also assisted residents of the home, said Susan Thesenga with the American Red Cross Minnesota and Dakotas Region. Four adults requested Red Cross assistance, and there were also four dogs in the home, Thesenga said.
“Our first priority is to ensure people affected have a safe shelter, food, and essential relief supplies,” Thesenga said. The Red Cross provided comfort kits, blankets and immediate financial assistance to all four people, she said. Red Cross health services also helped residents with replacing lost medications.
“About 165 times each day, Red Cross workers help a family affected by a disaster. Most of those disasters are home fires, and responses typically spike by nearly 20% in winter months, when fire risks increase due to cooking and heating,” Thesenga said.
