GREEN VALLEY — Area firefighters responded to a barn fire west of Green Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The fire caused extensive damage to the building, and some livestock were lost, said Ghent Fire Chief Bill Maertens. However, there were no human injuries reported, he said.
The Ghent Fire Department was called to a fire at a site north of the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Lyon County Road 8, Maertens said. He said the fire was in a building measuring about 20 by 40 feet, that was being used to raise livestock.
The Minneota and Marshall Fire Departments assisted at the scene by bringing in water. Maertens said the building structure was still standing after the fire, but had extensive damage.
