Man killed in Saturday crash near Balaton

BALATON — One person was killed, and one injured, in a rollover crash south of Balaton in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. Talan Greve, 19, was unresponsive at the crash scene and was later pronounced dead at Sanford Tracy Hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Another occupant of the vehicle, 18-year-old Hunter Gilbertson, was treated for injuries at Sanford Tracy.

The crash is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Minnesota State patrol.

The crash was reported shortly after midnight on Dec. 13, near the intersection of Lyon County Road 63 and 120th Street. A single vehicle at the crash scene had extensive damage and appeared to have rolled after leaving the roadway, the Sheriff’s Office said. Two adult males were found outside the vehicle. They could possibly have been ejected from the vehicle in the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Greve was unconscious and unresponsive, and appeared to have significant traumatic injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said. Greve was transported to Sanford Tracy by ambulance, and was later pronounced dead.

Gilbertson was injured, but was responsive and conscious, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was also transported to Sanford Tracy and treated for his injuries.

The Balaton Fire Department, Balaton Ambulance, and Tracy Ambulance all responded at the crash scene.
