MARSHALL — The room was filled with eager students and proud families as the Marshall School Board presented the November Tiger Spotlight nominations at a meeting Monday night, the second of the new school year.

Tiger Spotlight is a monthly tradition, where a student from each Marshall school site is recognized and honored as a student of the month from teacher nominations. Each student is asked to stand up during their presentation, while the board reads out loud descriptions submitted by their teachers.

Murray Albright was nominated as Park Side Elementary’s student by Amy Peterson.

“I am proud to nominate Murray Albright for recognition in writing. Over the past few months, he has shown tremendous growth and dedication to his writing. He consistently works to improve his letter formation and spacing, ensuring his writing is neat, legible, and thoughtfully organized,” Peterson said. “His enthusiasm for writing and illustrating makes his work a joy to read and reflects his growing pride in his accomplishments … Murray is a thoughtful and expressive young writer, and I am excited to celebrate his progress and creativity.”

Jamie MacKinnon chose Eduardo Pablo Lopez for Southview Elementary’s student of the month honor.

“Eduardo is an amazing student. He is always showing Tiger Pride here at Southview and is a great role model for others,” MacKinnon said. “He is on task and encourages others to be on task as well. If someone needs help with something, Eduardo is there to help them out. He is so kind and has a huge heart. I am so blessed to have him in my class this year. He is sweet, kind, smart and just an amazing kid all around.”

For Marshall Middle School, Mic Paulzine was selected by Eric Novosad and the 7th grade teachers.

“Mic Paulzine is truly a standout student. He consistently demonstrates positivity, respect and a strong work ethic in both our band and choir ensembles,” Novosad said. “This afternoon, Mic shared that he didn’t want to go home and ‘just do nothing’ – Instead, he said he’d rather stay at school and help teachers grade papers until the football game. He’s also able to carry on polite and thoughtful conversations with adults.”

Maddie Hoefer was nominated as the Marshall High School’s Tiger Spotlight student by Christopher Shuckhart and Carrie Sueker.

“Maddie is an excellent student, but beyond her academic excellence is her desire to learn. In English I, she is not a student who merely concerns herself with getting good scores on assignments,” Shuckhart said. “Maddie strives to understand and learn from mistakes. She is a leader in the classroom and regularly both asks and responds to questions.”

“In her Earth and Space Science lab groups, Maddie is a leader. She treats others with respect and makes sure all members understand the concepts before moving the lab group forward onto the next steps,” Sueker added.

Destiny Harrris was nominated by Deidra Lecy for the Area Learning Center’s recognition.

“Destiny is quiet, respectful and asks questions about her work to complete it efficiently. She is helpful to other classmates around her in class, and willing to help teachers with anything they ask of her,” Lecy said. “She aspires to finish high school and go to Cosmetology school to continue her love of helping people look nice with hair styles that fit their face and personality. Destiny lights up our school with her smile and great hair styles.”

The board also recognized Emily Ruppert, Jill Schroeder, Leanna Ginocchio and Karla Luther for their help and service during the recent operating referendum election.

“These four individuals went above and beyond their regular responsibilities to support our district, staff and community. Serving as election judges, they played a critical role in ensuring the integrity and smooth operation of the voting process. Their efforts included assisting early voters with care and professionalism, managing logistics and working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every detail of the election was handled efficiently and accurately,” school board chair Matt Coleman said. “Thanks to their hard work, the referendum process was conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for all participants.”

The Tiger Spotlight session will continue monthly throughout the school year.

Starting at $3.95/week.
