Marshall elementary student struck by vehicle

MARSHALL — A Marshall second-grade elementary student was hit by a vehicle Thursday afternoon after school at the crosswalk intersection of 4th Street and Saratoga Street.

According to a press release from Marshall Public Schools superintendent Jeremy Williams, emergency responders arrived at the scene quickly and the student was transported to receive medical care. The accident is being reviewed by local authorities.

Personal details and the identity of the student are not being released at this time to respect the privacy of the student and their family, Williams noted. He also detailed that the district is in close contact with the family, and will provide support as needed.

“The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority,” Williams said. “We urge all drivers to follow posted speed limits, stay alert for children crossing, avoid distractions and comply with directions from school crossing guards.”

This is the second student-and-vehicle incident to take place in Marshall this school year, as an elementary student was struck by a car on Sept. 5 in the crosswalk outside of Southview Elementary.
